Performance:

The BMW 430i is simply a piece of masterful German engineering. Its peppy 2.0-liter TwinPower turbo inline 4-cylinder engine develops a respectable 248 horsepower, and 258 ft-lbs of torque. The Cadillac CTS has a similar 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine, which develops an impressive 265 horsepower and 295 ft-lbs of torque. While the Cadillac may have have the better power numbers on paper, it actually comes up short on the track. The BMW 430i gets to sixty almost a half second faster than the American rival. The 430i is also an entire foot shorter, which leads to superior handling and allows it to pull significantly more lateral g’s on the skidpad. Don’t be deceived by what the brochures say, drive both cars, and we are confident that you’ll draw the same conclusion we came to: the BMW 430i is the superior performer.

Practicality:

The BMW is not “all brawn no brain,” in fact it is actually the more practical sedan out of this duo. The Cadillac CTS starts nearly $1,000 higher than the BMW 430i — and the Cadillac lacks some pretty basic features that are all standard on the BMW. What exactly doesn’t come standard on the Cadillac? Well… navigation, a sunroof, auto-leveling headlights, brake assist, rear AC, power folding mirrors, rain sensing wipers, and even fog lights, which are features you would expect a luxury car to offer. On top of being better equipped, the BMW 430i has a much larger trunk, 17 cubic feet vs the disappointing 13.7 cubic feet on the Cadillac CTS. Finally, the BMW is more fuel efficient, and it still performs better than the American rival. Based on all the information above, it is hard to argue against the 430i being the more practical decision.
