Performance:

the BMW 7-Series and the Mercedes S Class are the pinnacle of German luxury. For almost half a century, both companies have led the industry in creating some of the most superb executive sedans on the market. The BMW 7 Series is the more dynamic automobile out of this duo with a faster 0-60 (5.3 sec vs the Merc’s 5.4 sec), better combined fuel economy (24 MPG vs the Merc’s 22 MPG), and indisputably better handling (4-wheel steering optional). Both BMW and Mercedes offer effortlessly elegant sedans, which are designed to make driving an indulgence, not a chore. As far luxury sedans go, you really can’t go wrong with either the BMW 7 Series or the Mercedes S Class, but if you’re looking for superior overall driving performance, the 7 Series is the optimal choice.

Practicality:

The Mercedes S Class is a beautiful car, but it comes up short to the mighty BMW 7 Series on the practicality front. Both cars are equipped with all the goodies you’d expect to find in luxury vehicles: fine leather upholstery, loads of innovative technology, and all the comfort features humanly possible to fit in an automobile. However, the first area where the BMW distinguishes itself above the Mercedes is in the rear legroom offered. BMW realized that people riding in the back of a luxury sedan don’t like to have their knees pushed up to their chest. The 44.4 inches of legroom available in the back of the BMW 7 Series ensures a comfortable journey in the back seat. The 34.1 inches of rear legroom in the Mercedes S Class is rather disappointing. The BMW 7 Series also has better fuel economy, minimizing the trips to the pump. Finally, the 7 Series starts almost $5,000 less than the S Class, allowing you to have a well optioned out 740i for the price of a base S 450.
