FALL SERVICE TIPS

Importance of Autumn Auto Care

After a summer of travel with vacations, road trips, weekend beach visits, and numerous summer activities, your BMW most likely accumulated some mileage. Since BMWs require condition based services, such as oil changes and brake fluid checks, scheduling a Fall service appointment is important. Autumn service can act as a reset following the Summer miles traveled. Not only will this service revitalize your BMW after substantial Summer travel, but Fall service will also prep your Ultimate Driving Machine for the winter months. This preparation is important, because winter brings extreme temperatures and conditions. At Otto’s BMW, we provide a full BMW Certified Service Department that will take care of any of your seasonal service needs, to ease any affects temperature changes may have on your BMW. Below is a list of services our Certified Technicians at Otto’s BMW recommend during the Fall months. Also visit our Service Special’s page to enjoy up to $75 in rewards by taking advantage of Fall Services! Change the engine oil and filter.  An oil change is categorized as a condition based service based on miles traveled or driving style. The more driving done and miles accumulated causes engine oil to deteriorate. Oil is essential to an engine’s health, because it provides lubrication that will reduce the friction and heat an engine produces. Regular oil and filter changes are essential for protecting vital engine components. With the summer mileage accumulated, Fall is an optimal month for an oil change.

Perform a general engine inspection. Along with oil, the engine contains other essential fluids to engine operation such as brake fluid, steering fluid, transmission fluid, and the antifreeze. Typically these should be checked once a month, but Fall provides a natural point for an engine fluid check. As you drive your BMW, these fluids age and deteriorate with use. When our Certified Mechanics at Otto’s BMW perform engine checks, here are some factors they are considering… Adding brake fluid or steering fluid generally means there is a leak in that system, which will need to be fixed. If your transmission fluid is low or discolored and has a burning smell, a transmission check would be an important next step. If anti-freeze levels are low, the anti-freeze will need to be topped-off for protection during Winter. Remember, Otto’s BMW offers complementary fluid checks and top-offs when you schedule a service appointment!

Have a battery check performed, replace if necessary. As a battery ages, the external elements, such as temperature, cause a greater affect to functionality. With Fall being a prelude to Winter, consider a battery’s age when running in extreme temperatures. If your battery is several years old, scheduling a battery check in the Fall willbe optimal for avoiding battery issues when the cold Winter arrives. Our BMW Certified Mechanics will evaluate your battery’s health, and inform you whether it is time to replace it.

Seasonal Tire Change. If you use seasonal tires for your BMW for enhanced performance during specific seasons, Fall is the time to complete that tire transition. BMW only allocates a specific number of winter tires to each BMW dealership, and once winter tires are out of stock, it will be difficult to find them. Avoid this issue by ordering your BMW’s winter tires early through our Parts Department. Browse our tire selection by clicking here, and please call our Parts Department at 610- 399-4171 with any questions.
