WINTER SERVICE TIPS

Schedule Service AppointmentContact Us

Winterize Your BMW

It is important for both safety and performance to ensure your BMW is prepped for Winter. Between the travel related to Summer vacationing and Fall errands, your BMW’s tire treads might be worn or the brakes might need care. Even with the year-end holidays keeping you busy, please take some time to schedule a BMW service appointment prior to the start of the winter weather. At Otto’s BMW, we care about your safety, so when you schedule a service appointment, our BMW technicians will provide a complimentary fluid top-off and tire check.

Since BMWs require condition based services, such as oil changes and brake fluid checks, scheduling a Winter service appointment is important. At Otto’s BMW, we provide a full BMW Certified Service Department that will take care of any of your seasonal service needs, to ease any affects temperature changes may have on your BMW. Below is a list of services our Certified Technicians at Otto’s BMW recommend prior to Winter. Also visit our Service Special’s page to enjoy over $100 in rewards or savings by taking advantage of BMW Winter Travels Service Campaign! Tire check for tire pressure and tread depth. Your BMW’s tires are the only part of your vehicle in contact with the road, so well maintained tires are essential for optimizing the handling, braking, safety, and performance of your BMW. Proper tire care on your BMW ensures safe travels especially during the winter weather. The two primary tire related checks to perform prior to the winter are tire pressure and tread depth.

Tire pressure can change with seasonal temperature fluctuations, and during seasonal changes, you might notice your tire pressure monitoring (TPM) light illuminate. Whether your TPM light displays or not, you should check your BMW’s tire pressure every other refuel. The driver’s side door jam lists the manufacturer’s tire pressure specifications. Having incorrect tire pressure could affect the performance and wear of the tire, especially handling and braking.

Tread depth on a tire is affected as the mileage increases on tires, because the tire tread wears down. Ample tread depth is critical in over all performance, which includes breaking. Click here to see how worn tires will negatively impact your BMW’s braking. Harsh winter conditions, especially snow and ice, will negatively impact your BMW’s handling, performance, and safety. That negative impact only increases with worn tires that have low tread depth.

Battery test and replacement if necessary. As a battery ages, the external elements, such as the harsh winter temperature, cause a greater affect to functionality.  The lower temperatures result in a higher battery charge to start the vehicle. If your battery is several years old, scheduling a battery check will be optimal for avoiding battery issues. Our BMW Certified Mechanics will evaluate your battery’s health, and inform you whether it is time to replace it.

BMW lighting system check. With the winter season leading to shorter days and snow storms, another important service check is a BMW lighting system check. It is important to make sure your vehicle’s lighting systems are functioning properly. Perform a walk around of your vehicle to check the headlights, taillights, turn signals, and brake lights. Schedule a service appointment to replace any burnt-out bulbs or diagnose any electrical issue, so that you can see, be seen, and effectively communicate your navigation with other drivers during winter.
